Following our successful careers as photojournalists we founded Tadema Gallery in Islington's famed Camden Passage in 1978. We first specialised in 20th Century Abstract Art and the Decorative Arts of the 19th and 20th Centuries.
A few years later in 1982 we discovered a passion for artist designed jewellery and made this our field of specialisation. Our eclectic choice of jewels spans the period from about 1860 till 1960, including a selection of significant designers from the Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Jugendstil and Art Deco movements in Europe.
During the last three decades we exhibited widely in Art and Antique Fairs in London, New York and Tokyo. Until its recent demise we were regular exhibitors at the Grosvenor House Art & Antiques Fair in London, and since then prefer a personal touch and invite our customers to our annual Summer Exhibition at Tadema Gallery.
Our clients include international museums, private collectors from all over the world and we strive to please and inspire those who simply enjoy the beauty and fun of wearing jewellery.
"Their jewel box (literally) of a shop in London is like a living museum; in other words, many, if not most, of their offerings are of museum quality... only, happily, all are for sale. Tadema Gallery's proprietors Sonya and David Newell-Smith, are as much a treat as their offerings. No sales pressure here - just warmth, wisdom and a genuine desire to share their love of prized pieces with other jewelry lovers." Janine Gordon, President, JGA Peppercomm, New York
