About Us

Following our successful careers as photojournalists we founded Tadema Gallery in Islington's famed Camden Passage in 1978. We first specialised in 20th Century Abstract Art and the Decorative Arts of the 19th and 20th Centuries.

A few years later in 1982 we discovered a passion for artist designed jewellery and made this our field of specialisation. Our eclectic choice of jewels spans the period from about 1860 till 1960, including a selection of significant designers from the Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Jugendstil and Art Deco movements worldwide.

During the last forty years we exhibited widely in Art and Antique Fairs in London, New York and Tokyo. Until its demise we were regular exhibitors at the Grosvenor House Art & Antiques Fair in London, and have since preferred a personal touch with our clients, in the gallery at Camden Passage and now online. Our clients include international museums, private collectors from all over the world and we strive to please and inspire those who simply enjoy the beauty and fun of wearing jewellery.

Tadema Gallery's proprietors Sonya and David Newell-Smith, are as much a treat as their offerings. No sales pressure here - just warmth, wisdom and a genuine desire to share their love of prized pieces with other jewelry lovers. Janine Gordon, President, JGA Peppercomm, New York
