The Godess Gallia. as was usual with Rome, was adopted & worshipped by the Roman troops recruited from Gaul. See excavations at Vindolanda. Gallia can be seen as part of Northern European mythology epitimized best for example in Wagners Ring Cycle. The portrait on this brooch could have been created for a Wagnerian heroine. See British Museum: Hull Grundy gift museum no 1978.1002.738 'On the reverse is a rising sun seen through a dolmen with a french flag & latin inscription.
